Worship at Tenth Presbyterian

After the conclusion on the Calvin conference and before the Heroes, History, & Hope Tour began on Monday, we were able to make a trip into Philadelphia on Sunday to worship at Tenth Presbyterian.  Tenth is one of the oldest Presbyterian churches which still has an active congregation.  Furthermore, because of the ministries of men like James Montgomery Boice and Phillip Graham Ryken, Tenth is also fairly orthodox in its beliefs.

The worship bulletin...I love the logo!

Sacred to the memory of a man of God

Memorial to one of the original members

The pulpit, baptismal font, and chairs for the elders

The church organ, which had four manuals (keyboards) rather than the usual 3

A view from the balcony
The Serven family, Cody, and I sat in the middle row on the right, about 6-7 pews back from the front of the sanctuary.

Never saw this before!

Red brick architecture

After worship was concluded, we spent some time walking around Philadelphia, enjoying seeing the various reminders of God's ever-kind Providence towards our country

Various "freedom" movements which have adopted the Liberty Bell

The original bell!

A national artifact of liberty

The church where the Bell originally hung in

A replica bell, which sounds out the hours

Some street art I passed by caught my attention, especially this painting.  I thought the whole idea of a Day of Reciprocity was a great idea and also properly communicated the way the different racial groups were to interact with each other.

Our last stop

The National Constitution Center

The exhibit on the 18th Amendment and the Prohibition was incredibly fascinating!  I have never really studied that time period in history and there were a lot of stunning parallels between the arguments and "solutions" which were made back then for alcohol regulation and the arguments and "solutions" which are being made now for gun regulation and control.

Apparently, your sins will find you out!  :D

Be on the lookout for more posts with pictures!
